Can Thieves Open Your Tesla Frunk? 9V Battery Myth Busted
Ever wondered if someone can pop your Tesla frunk open using just a 9V battery? In this video, we test the famous emergency frunk release trick to see if it works when your 12V battery is completely healthy—or if Tesla’s security features block it! Watch as we hook up a 9V battery, check the car’s response, and show you a clever way to tuck an emergency battery safely away behind the bumper access lid just in case you ever need it.
How and why open a Tesla frunk with a 9V battery
Opening a Tesla front trunk (frunk) with a 9V rectangular battery (or 12V power source) is the standard emergency bypass when the vehicle’s low-voltage (12V or 16V Li-ion) battery is completely dead. Key Notes for Newer Tesla Models (16V Lithium-Ion). On newer Tesla models (Model 3/Y from late 2021 onwards equipped with AMD Ryzen processors and 16V Li-ion low-voltage batteries), a standard 9V battery might occasionally lack sufficient voltage/current to trip the electronic latch. If a 9V battery fails to release the latch on a 16V system, use a standard 12V portable jump pack or a 12V car battery power source instead. Check here my video which 12V accessories are compatible with a new 16V lithium Tesla battery.
