Why is the risk of car damage much greater in parking garages near shops
Cars get damaged surprisingly often in car parks near shops (like supermarkets, malls, or retail centers) due to a combination of environmental, behavioral, and design factors that create higher risks than on regular roads. These lots are hotspots for minor (and sometimes major) cosmetic damage like scratches, dents, dings, and scuffs. Here are the main reasons why this happens so frequently:
- Tight spaces and close-quarters maneuvering — Parking spots are often narrow, especially in busy shopping areas. Drivers squeeze into tight spots, back out awkwardly, or misjudge distances while turning, leading to sideswipes, door dings, or bumper scrapes. Rushed parking in crowded lots amplifies careless maneuvers.
