3 reasons why you should be careful when cleaning your car’s Wiper Blades

  1. Fragile Material: Wiper blades are typically made of soft rubber or silicone, which can easily tear, crack, or degrade if mishandled. Harsh cleaning methods or abrasive tools (e.g., scrub brushes or rough cloths) can damage the blade’s edge, reducing its effectiveness. That’s why I strongly prefer this touchless method I showed you in the video using the Liqui Moly foam.
  2. Maintaining Blade Shape: The blade’s edge is precision-designed to make smooth, even contact with the windshield. Aggressive cleaning or improper handling (e.g., bending or twisting) can deform the blade, leading to streaking or skipping during use.
  3. Avoiding Chemical Damage: Using improper cleaning agents, such as ammonia-based or solvent-based cleaners, can deteriorate the rubber or silicone, causing it to harden, crack, or lose flexibility. This shortens the blade’s lifespan.

6 reasons why I recommend cleaning your car wiper blades on a regular basis.

  1. Safety Considerations: Wiper blades are critical for visibility in adverse weather. Damaging them during cleaning could compromise their performance, increasing the risk of accidents. Why You Should Clean Wiper Blades.
  2. Improved Visibility: Dirt, grime, bugs, sap, or road film on wiper blades can cause streaking or smearing, reducing visibility. Regular cleaning ensures clear, effective wiping.
  3. Extended Blade Lifespan: Removing debris and contaminants prevents premature wear of the rubber or silicone, delaying the need for replacement.
  4. Better Performance: Clean blades maintain proper contact with the windshield, ensuring efficient water, snow, or debris removal, especially in harsh weather conditions.
  5. Preventing Windshield Damage: Debris trapped on blades can scratch or scuff the windshield over time. Cleaning prevents abrasive particles from grinding against the glass.
  6. Cost Savings: Regular maintenance reduces the frequency of blade replacements, saving money in the long run.
