SOFT99 Kiwami wax vs TESLA Ultra Red – Manual & Eccentric polisher application test
In search of the Ultimate Shine for my sexy Ultra Red Tesla Model 3 Performance I have decided to spend some of my money on my first ever Soft99 product. Today I am testing out the Japanese Soft99 Kiwami Dark wax and sharing my review with you. I will use the default application by hand with the included pad and also with an eccentric polishing machine from Parkside by Lidl. Here is a link to the products used in my video:
Why Soft99 Kiwami Wax is great to protect soft Tesla paint
Tesla paint is often described by owners and detailers as “soft,” meaning it is more susceptible to fine scratches, swirl marks, and environmental damage. Soft99 Kiwami Wax is highly regarded for this specific paint type because it balances aesthetic enhancement with safe application.
Here is why it is a popular choice for Tesla owners:
1. High “Wet Look” Gloss and Filling
Tesla’s “soft” paint can easily develop micro-marring that dulls the finish.
- Extreme Gloss: Known as “Extreme Gloss” (Kiwami means “extreme”), this wax uses a hybrid blend of high-grade Carnauba and synthetic polymers to create a deep, “wet” mirror-like shine.
- Masking Imperfections: The formula has light filling capabilities, which help to hide the very fine swirl marks that commonly appear on soft clear coats without the need for aggressive polishing.
2. Gentle Application and Removal
For soft paint, the more you have to rub a surface, the higher the risk of scratching it.
- Soft Paste Consistency: Unlike “hard” waxes that require significant pressure to spread, Kiwami is a soft paste. It spreads thin and effortlessly, reducing the physical friction on the paint during application.
- Easy Buffing: It is designed to be wiped off easily after a short curing time (5–15 minutes). This “easy-on, easy-off” nature is critical for Teslas, as it minimizes the mechanical stress of buffing with a microfiber towel.
3. Balanced Protection
While not as permanent as a ceramic coating, it provides a solid barrier against the elements.
- 3-Month Durability: It offers roughly 90 days of protection against UV rays, bird droppings, and acid rain.
- Hydrophobic Properties: It creates a very slick surface that causes water to bead and roll off, making the car easier to clean and reducing the need for heavy scrubbing during washes.
4. Color-Specific Formulas
To get the best results on Tesla’s specific paint colors, Soft99 offers two versions:
- Kiwami Dark: Formulated with more fillers to enhance the depth of colors like Solid Black, Deep Blue Metallic, or Ultra Red.
- Kiwami Light: Focused on cleaning agents and brighteners to make Pearl White Multi-Coat or Quicksilver look more vibrant.
Recommended Application Tips for Tesla
- Use the “Damp Sponge Rule”: Lightly dampen the included applicator before taking wax from the tin to help it glide even more smoothly over the soft paint.
- Work in the Shade: Never apply to a hot Tesla body, as the wax will bake onto the soft clear coat, making it difficult to remove and potentially causing streaks.
- Prep is Key: Use a pH-neutral soap and a clay bar beforehand to ensure the wax bonds to the paint rather than sitting on top of contaminants.
