Protecting my tires with Liqui Moly before their winter beauty sleep

Join me for my recurring winter ritual where I protect my car’s summer tires for their beauty sleep in storage. With this ritual I protect the tires from all kinds of elements including prevention of ozone, tire dry rot, early aging and cracking. This winter season I am testing and reviewing Liqui Moly tire foam.

How can tire foam help to protect my car’s tires?

Here are 3 reasons how tire foam dressings can help protect your car’s tires especially when putting them in long term storage.

  1. Protection Against Environmental Damage. Tire foam dressings form a protective layer on the tire surface that shields the rubber from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, which are one of the main causes of fading, brittleness, and cracking over time. It also acts as a barrier against moisture, dirt, and road debris, which can otherwise accelerate wear and dry rot. By keeping the tire surface hydrated and resilient, the foam helps maintain the structural integrity of tire sidewalls, reducing the risk of premature deterioration and blowouts.
  2. Rubber Conditioning and Longevity. Foam dressings typically contain water-resistant polymers, silicones, and plasticizers that hydrate and soften the rubber, keeping it supple and flexible. This conditioning prevents the rubber from becoming brittle and helps extend the lifespan of your tires. Regular use ensures that the tires remain visually appealing, with a rich black finish, while remaining functional under harsh weather conditions.
  3. Enhancing Safety and Performance. While primarily protective, tire foam dressing can also help maintain a consistent contact patch by filling in fine cracks and imperfections, potentially improving tire grip slightly, especially on the sidewall. Additionally, by forming a clean, non-greasy layer that resists dirt accumulation, it reduces wear from abrasive materials sticking to the tire.
