10 minutes routine to save your car cabin from heat and harmful UV rays
In this video I would like to share my favorite quick 10 minute routine to block UV rays and prevent the car plastics and dashboard from aging, fading and cracking. Let’s test out together my new Mafra 3-in-1 dashboard shine car detailing spray.
Why sun UV rays are dangerous for your car
UV rays are harmful to car cabin plastics and dashboards because they cause photodegradation, breaking down the molecular structure of materials like vinyl, plastic, and leather. Here’s 5 reasons I came up with why you need to be careful with UV and direct summer sun on your car:
- Fading and Discoloration: UV rays degrade pigments and dyes, causing surfaces to fade or change color over time.
- Cracking and Brittleness: Prolonged exposure weakens the material’s integrity, making plastics brittle and prone to cracking.
- Heat Damage: UV rays contribute to heat buildup, accelerating material wear and causing warping or melting in extreme cases.
- Chemical Breakdown: UV exposure triggers oxidation, deteriorating protective coatings and releasing volatile compounds that can make surfaces sticky or chalky.
Best way to protect your car’s interior against UV rays and sun damage
To protect your car’s interior, I can highly recommend to use UV-resistant window tints, sunshades, or interior protectants like the Mafra spray from my video with UV inhibitors, and park in shaded areas when possible. Don’t forget to protect your leather car seats with a special product too in the summer.
