What it feels like to drive a Tesla Model 3 Performance with a sports suspension activated?

Driving a 2025 Tesla Model 3 Performance with the sport suspension activated transforms the car from a refined, quiet commuter into a highly responsive, “glued-to-the-road” sports sedan. Unlike previous generations, the 2025 model uses an adaptive damping system that allows you to toggle the car’s personality on the fly via the “Ride & Handling” menu.

The Tesla Driving Experience in Sport Mode

When you activate the Sport setting, the adaptive dampers stiffen significantly. The experience is defined by three main characteristics:

  • Road Feedback: You feel “connected” to the asphalt. The damping elevates control, providing faster settling times after bumps. While you’ll feel the road’s texture more than in Standard mode, the new chassis keeps it from being “harsh” or “crashy.”
  • Cornering & Flatness: Body roll is nearly eliminated. Because the dampers adjust in real-time, the car resists leaning during high-speed turns, making it feel much lighter and more nimble than its actual weight would suggest.
  • Steering Response: The stiffened suspension sharpens the steering feel. The car reacts more immediately to your inputs, which is particularly noticeable on twisty roads or when navigating tight canyon curves.

Comparison: Standard vs. Sport vs. Track in Tesla Model 3 Performance

ModePrimary FeelBest For
StandardFluid, calm, and compliant; feels like a luxury daily driver.Commuting, highways, and family trips.
SportFirm, controlled, and direct; high driver engagement.Spirited driving on twisty B-roads.
TrackMaximum stiffness; body control is prioritized over comfort.Closed circuits (automatically active in Track Mode).

What Tesla drive mode to select on roads with potholes

If you are driving on rough city streets with potholes, you’ll likely want to switch back to Standard. The Sport mode is refined, but it will transmit the “thud” of a large pothole much more directly into the cabin and the new bolstered sport seats.

Feedback

The Tesla sport suspension is balanced by the new Sport Seats, which feature aggressive side bolstering to keep you snug during cornering. Owners often find that leaving the suspension in Sport is perfect for solo drives, while Standard is a “must” when passengers (especially children or those prone to car sickness) are in the back, as it softens the vertical movement over road imperfections.
