I am officially out of screen wash fluid so I decided to test and review Ma-Fra Tergy Winter -10°C. This is a Winter windshield washer fluid from my favorite Italian car wash & detailing brand Ma-Fra. Can the tubes and nozzles of your car’s screen wash get blocked with limestone?
Yes, the tubes and nozzles of a car’s windshield washer system can get blocked with limescale (calcium carbonate) or other mineral deposits, especially in areas with hard water. Hard water contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium, which can accumulate over time inside the washer system, particularly in the nozzles and tubes. These deposits can restrict or completely block the flow of washer fluid, reducing the system’s effectiveness.
Why do your car screen wash tubes and nozzles get blocked?
- Hard Water: If you use tap water instead of distilled water or proper windshield washer fluid, minerals in the water can precipitate and form limescale.
- Environmental Factors: Debris, dirt, or road grime can mix with water in the system, contributing to blockages.
- Infrequent Use: If the washer system isn’t used regularly, standing water can lead to mineral buildup or algae growth, further clogging the system.
How to tell if your car’s screen wash nozzles and tubes are blocked?
- Weak or no spray from the nozzles.
- Uneven or misdirected spray patterns.
